PREAMBLE

State of the ARTS:
From time to time, since man first drew bison upon the walls of an ancient cave, we are faced with the advent of new technology which in turn causes a stir in the art world. In more recent times, the camera obscura was one of those advents, photographic film another -- and the latest, digital photography.

It is now much easier to combine the mechanics of photography with the aesthetic adeptness of the artist to produce a hybridization known as Digital Imagery. Those unique combinations are reflected in the Original Prints (giclées) of JC Cannon.

JC uses all-digital equipment to produce his original prints offered exclusively by Ventura's favorite gallery, Accolades on Main Street and by the Pierpont Inn. Many effects will be applied to a digital image during the task of metamorphosing it into a work which often will appear to be a finely crafted watercolor. In the last stage, the image will be applied onto specially formulated watercolor paper, using pigmented (not dye) inks, formulated to last up to 75-100 years (depending on lighting conditions).

Of course the war rages on regarding the "legitimacy" of this newer art form, just as it has in the past -- each time new technology is introduced. JC is simply using virtual paint, applied with virtual brushes on virtual canvases.

While the purists are allowed their quarrel, JC will be creating as many of his prints as people are willing to place upon their walls -- knowing it takes talent to do what he does, and not just a couple of clicks of a virtual button.
